Fostering Critical Thinking and Soft Skills Development
VISION:
Established on December 29, 2022, under the guidance of Dr Chandan Bhardwaj, Prof. Prakash Thakur and Dr Sangeeta Singh, The English and Hindi debating societies came with a vision to embolden students’ critical thinking skills through constructive discourse, while fostering a culture of active participation and overcoming stage apprehension. Drawing on faculty expertise across disciplines, the society champions diverse perspectives to elevate the caliber of discourse.
At its core, the debating society seeks to nurture critical thinking regarding societal issues. Through fostering an environment conducive to vibrant debates and discussions, it aims to equip students with analytical acumen, effective communication prowess, leadership aptitude, and an appreciation for diverse viewpoints. The ultimate aspiration is to cultivate well-rounded individuals capable of navigating complexity and contributing positively to society.
MISSION:
The debating society’s mission is to facilitate constructive discourse on designated topics. Through regular debates, it endeavours to sharpen students’ critical thinking, refine their communication skills, and foster open-mindedness. By providing a platform for research, argumentation, and the expression of opinions, the society endeavours to foster a culture of intellectual exchange and mutual respect.
FORMATION OF THE CORE STUDENT BODY:
On May 20, 2023, faculty members across disciplines were invited to nominate two students to join the core student body of the debating society. The objective was to bolster student involvement and cultivate skills in event management, teamwork, and leadership.
The core student body plays a pivotal role in strategizing, coordinating, and ensuring the success of forthcoming events.
